The Standard Bank Young Artist 2008 Nontsikelelo Velelko

This is the image I really liked especially because it was a self portrait but I felt this was the only really interesting image and it wasn't really the photograph that was beautiful it was the graffitti element.

We went to the National Gallery to see the Standbank Young Artist for 2008. Nontsikelelo Veleko, the second photographer to win the award. Many of the artists that win this award become the artists to watch in the future. What we saw was not the whole exhibition because apparently the air conditioner was damaging the works and most of the works were taken down. What I did see did not impress me at all it actually really disappointed me and actually wonder if this is really the best photographic talent we have which I know that can't be true. The exhibition looked at the new type of youth culture in South Africa. She looked at the fashion of the youth and elements that play a role in this culture. I did like the concept but I thought the execution in the photographs was not achieved at all. I think she didn't grasp the culture as a group and the exhibition was more about where she fits in the culture. There was one images I did like it was image of a girl and it had graffiti written over it the labels that people have used for her. That was all I liked and I left very puzzled???

Idols Drama

Can't believe it I knew it was weird that Sashsa Lee won????
Guess what Jason actually was the true idol yeah crazy! So what happens now both are the winners Jason gets all the same great prizes like the car and recording contract. It is weird though I guess they couldn't really say to Sasha Lee sorry you not the idol and take all the prizes and give it to Jason.
Must say Mnet was useless this year to let such a terrible mistake happen I mean the season is already been a bit crappy especially with the new host Liezel who I think is the most irratating person really don't like her.
I am happy for Jason I hope he does well he deserves it a great performer.

OoOOOOOh I read the scandal and it sounds like there was problems with the votes well Im not a Sasha lee fan at all and was very shocked that she won personally I find her very boring and really thought Jason should of won looks like with all this voting troubles maybe Jason is the real idol. There is even talk that it was rigged??? Don't know about that but wouold love for Jason to win lets see what happens???

Personally I think Thembi should of won but she went out way to early so sad becuase she is a great singer and really personality hopefully she will do well??

Top 10 Magazines I like to read

Yip I am a magazine addict, I have only included the magazines that are published in South Africa with one exception Vogue because even though it isn't published here I wish they would. Here is the mags I love and the websites you can check out at:

Great website colourful and really interesting
5. Salt Water Girl
Not a mag I read anymore because it does cater to a younger audience but when I was in my teens loved it. It features all the stuff I love focusing on a more beach and surf brand but it is a great mag very funky and young layout.

Not so crazy about their website its very all over the place and boring.

8. You
Not my favourite mag but my mom reads it every week so I read it as well I only like the back of the mag the gossip sections and I read some of the articles but thats about it.
What I do like is the way it reports on the hottest stories at time in South Africa and what else is going on in the world
Websit not bad but still nothing to get too excited about.
http://www.you.co.za

More fashion then everything else, I do like this but it is a little boring and not as funky as other fashion mags.

Elections and Erections Pieter Dirk Uys

I went to the amazing show of Pieter Dirk Uys a famous comedian comic in Cape Town at the Baxter Theatre. Great great man he is really funny and just a great act! Those who don't know who he is, he is famous for his personalities that he transforms into, the one he is most well known for is the Afrikaans lady named Evita Bezuidenhout (also known as Tannie Evita). Seen above with the Zuma puppet which played a hilarious part in the show. It was just brilliant it showers people in the audience with the shower head hilarious. Zuma wasn't the only person commented on in the show Thabo Mbeki of course but what was done brilliantly was he dresses up as Pik Botha (the president from the Apartheid era) and he has Thabo as a puppet and he compares their political campaigns. The best part is when he says that Thabo is an anagram of Botha. A really great show other characters was Hillary Clinton, the muslim lady he knows in Woodstock that owns a junk shop and oblivously Evita. When you can check him out worth every penny!
